italy 2010: pompeii, naples

If you don’t know, Pompeii was destroyed by a catastrophic eruption of the volcano Mount Vesuviu in 79AD. It was lost but rediscovered in 1599. I wonder how many years they took to excavate the whole city. The place is HUGE.

The Pompeii map is shaped like a fish.

I love this shot. Look at the sun rays!

This used to be a marketplace.

A victim who got covered in volcanic ash.

The whole place looked pretty much the same. I would be so lost if not for the pompeii guide.

Remains of a bakery.

The stadium was pretty much intact.

I love exploring ruins. Everything tells a story. And the imperfection of the place makes it even more interesting because we’re too used to seeing cityscapes and perfect buildings.
